TerryTown Travel Center, Inc. opened in a barn on the north side of Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1973. Founder and current company president, Tom Selvius, sold our first RV: a 1973 19′ Taurus, to James E. of Kent City, MI. With a stylish orange interior, four stabilizing jacks, hub caps, water hose, sewer hose and spare tire, the trailer rolled out the door for $3,099. The deal included our first trade-in: a 1969 Aristocrat Lo-Liner.
After Tom spent a couple of years handling sales, service, and secretarial duties, (not to mention some cold winters pushing snow around the lot with an old Ford tractor), business began to take off. It didn’t take Tom long to realize that the dealership’s continued growth demanded a better location and some employees! We built the first part of our present Cutlerville-area facility in 1976 and became a Jayco dealer that same year. Additions to the building and sales lot have continued over the years, giving us Michigan’s largest RV showroom and a state-of-the-art 10-bay service facility.
