If you’re looking for an out-of-this-world experience, then traveling to Roswell, NM, is a must! Home to one of the most talked-about UFO conspiracy theories in history, Roswell, in southeast New Mexico, is home to almost 50,000 residents. A much-debated 1947 crash landing of either a US Air Force surveillance balloon or a UFO put Roswell on the map. Ever since then visitors have flocked to this beautiful mountainous area in hopes of an extraterrestrial experience. With Roswell’s well-known history in alien encounters, it’s no surprise that the International UFO Museum and Research Center is one of the most visited places in the state of New Mexico. But Roswell also draws art lovers to its Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art and the Roswell Museum and Art Center. The Historical Center for Southeast New Mexico displays antiques, artifacts, and has changing exhibits. For outdoor activities, visit the Bitter Lake Wildlife Refuge or the free Spring River Park & Zoo. If you’re a golfer, hit the links at two of the finest courses in New Mexico: the Spring River Golf Course or the New Mexico Military Institute Golf Course. Camping in Roswell, NM
Bottomless Lakes State Park, 545 A Bottomless Lakes Rd., Roswell, NM 88201
This New Mexico state park is located about 15 miles southeast of Roswell and offers great non-motorized boating opportunities. Bring your kayak, canoe, or paddleboard and spend a day on the beautiful green-blue waters of the local lakes. Ranging in depths of 17 to 90 feet deep, the 9 separate lakes are sinkholes filled with aquatic plants that give the lakes their unique, stunning color. In addition to boating, you can also cast your line in hopes of catching fish from November through March, go swimming, or even go scuba diving. This park is also a popular destination for photography, as the landscape is interesting to the eye. Bottomless Lakes State Park is the oldest state park in New Mexico, having been formed in 1933. There are two places to camp within Bottomless Lakes State Park. Lea Lake Campground offers 32 campsites with hook-ups. Six of these have full hookups, while the other 26 have just water and electric hook-ups. The campground offers restrooms with showers, an RV dump station, Wi-Fi, boat rentals, and a group shelter. In the lower lakes area, there are 10 developed campsites with vault toilets as well. Hiking, biking, and birding around the Bottomless Lakes State Park is popular with 4.53 miles of nice trails. Skidmarks bike trail is 3.13 miles long, The Bluff Trail is .86 miles long, and the Wetlands Trail is .54 miles long.
Trailer Village RV Park, 1706 East 2nd St., Roswell, NM 88201
This family-owned RV park has 53 full hook-up sites with water, electric, sewer, cable TV, picnic tables, and free Wi-Fi. Fifteen of the sites are easy-in, easy-out pull-thru sites and there are a few back-in sites. Well-maintained restrooms with showers are located within the campground as well as a laundry facility. Pets (and responsible pet owners) are welcome. The picnic pavilion provides a great gathering spot and the owners even provide a grill! Mature trees give the park much-needed shade during the hot summer months. Past visitors comment on how the friendly owners have put a lot of time and money into their campground and it shows.
Town & Country RV & Mobile Home Park, 331 W. Brasher Rd., Roswell, NM 88203
The Town & Country RV & Mobile Home Park offers 122 full hook-up, pass-thru sites adorned with shade trees. Within the campground you will find clean bathrooms and showers, laundry facilities, a swimming pool, clubhouse, workout facility, a dog park, Wi-Fi, free cable TV, and BBQ grills. Visitors note that the “newer” section is clean and offers wider sites, however their Wi-Fi may not be the most reliable.
Red Barn RV Park, 2806 East 2nd St. , Roswell, NM 88201
Red Barn RV Park is located just 2.5 miles from the center of town! Full hookup and pull-thru sites are available. The park offers clean restrooms with showers, a laundry facility, a small camp store, a game room (cards & dominoes), and Wi-Fi. Pets are welcome and BBQing is ok, but campfires are prohibited.
