Kids of all ages love s’mores, even the adult kids! They’re sweet and chocolatey and delicious! Many cannot wait to get to their campsite and set up their fire to make them! This anticipation can make a long road trip even more grueling! What if we told you that you can have them before you get there? You can make them early and bring them along for a roadtrip snack! What is a Muddy Buddy?

If you’ve never heard of a Muddy Buddy you are missing out! This is a sweet twist on the traditional Chex Mix snack! Typically it’s Chex cereal with chocolate and peanut butter melted over them and then a dusting of powdered sugar. You may also hear it called Puppy Chow. There are many variations that have been created over the years such as lemon, lime, cookies & cream, biscoff, candy cane, and tons of candy bar flavors. The possibilities are endless, but here we have a campfire version for the road! Check out this amazing recipe!

S’mores Muddy Buddies

First, you need to make sure you have everything in your arsenal before you get started. Check your cabinets and then make a shopping list for anything you may be missing. Ensure you have bags to put this in so everyone can have their own. One bite of this and you will quickly see that no one is going to want to share!

Ingredients

golden grahamschex mix cerealmarshamllows
chocolate chipspowdered sugarpeanut butter
  • 5 cups General Mills Golden Grahams cereal
  • 3 cups General Mills Chex Cereal (Use any kind! For a chocolatier version, you can even use the chocolate Chex!)
  • 1 3/4 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

Directions

Step 1: In a large bowl, combine the two types of cereal, reserving 1 cup of the Golden Grahams, and set aside.

Step 2: Place the powdered sugar in a large bowl with a lid or a large zipper bag and set it aside as well.

Step 3: In a large microwave safe bowl, combine 1 cup of chocolate chips with the peanut butter. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then microwave for another 30 seconds before stirring again. Keep nuking it for 30 seconds at a time and stirring until it’s melted and smooth.

Step 4: Add 1 cup of your mini marshmallows to the chocolate/peanut butter mixture and stir until the marshmallows begin to melt.

Step 5: Put the cereal into the bowl/bag with the powdered sugar and seal it. Toss to coat everything with the sugar.

Step 6: Add the remaining cereal, chocolate chips, and marshmallows!

Step 7: Divide into small bags for individuals and you’re ready for your road trip!!!

Warning: Side effects of this recipe include delighted taste buds, possible sugar euphoria, and arguments over the last piece. If you or your family experience any of these side effects, prepare another batch immediately! These side effects are common so prevention is key! You may want to double or even triple this batch upon first creation!
