Blog Menu

What's your favorite hobby? While we love the traditional RV lifestyle of adventure and the great outdoors, we here at TerryTown RV want you to know that you don’t have to be a hard-core nature nut to experience the joys of RVing. That’s the beauty of RV travel—it’s whatever you make it! Check out these top destinations for different hobbyists that are a total changeup from your standard hiking or climbing excursion. They're sure to get you geeked to enjoy your ultimate favorite pastimes. Just pack up your new RV from your favorite West Michigan RV dealer and hit the road!

MUSIC

For all you music lovers out there, a trip to pay tribute to all your favorite music artists just may be the RV excursion for you. Of course Nashville is a strong contender as one of the top music destinations in the U.S., but branch out and explore all there is out there. Hit up Seattle and visit the birthplace of grunge, or just explore Motown right here in Michigan! If you want to see some of the biggest names in music, tote your RV along to a music festival like Coachella in Indio, California; Lollapalooza in Chicago, Illinois; or South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.

San Francisco

For a wonderfully unique music getaway, head out to California and check out the San Francisco music scene! Whether you hit up one of the several incredible venues for an intimate or large show, or head out for the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in Golden Gate Park, you’ll live and breathe music in one of the most inspired locations in the country.

Where To Camp
Kirby Cove Campground

For both music and adventure, Kirby Cove Campground is the perfect spot! It offers quiet seclusion right on the beach, complete with a killer view of the Golden Gate Bridge that is right next to the campground. Go hiking, explore the cove, then head out and see all that San Francisco has to offer!

GEOCACHING

To combine the elements of exploring the great outdoors with treasure hunting, try out geocaching! This modern phenomenon uses GPS coordinates to help hunters locate containers, which can contain some awesome finds. There will usually be a log book of previous visitors, and some may leave behind trinkets or treasures for the next person. The treasure can be yours, as long as you leave something of equal value behind for the next discoverer!

Geocaching In Oregon

Oregon is one of the most active destinations for geocachers! There are at least 108 total caches, with four different geocache tour routes that will take you along rivers and waterfalls, through forests, across lava fields, around mountains, and explore through national parks and even wineries!

Where To Camp
Amritage Park

There are a lot of camping spots at your disposal, but Amritage Park is a great choice for comfortable camping near Eugene! It’s a good central point of the geocache area, with 37 year-round sites, with full hookups and Wi-Fi, laundry, a dog park, nature trail, and so much more. Make reservations with the Lane County Parks office at 541-682-2000, and visit their website to find out more about the park.

VIDEO GAMING
and
POP CULTURE

If you are an avid gamer, or have ever had to live with one, you’ll know that gaming and the great outdoors don’t exactly always go hand in hand. I don’t mean to generalize, because there are plenty of gamers out there who are equally as active in exploring a real map as an open world map. But after living in a house full of guys who game, I know better than anyone that if gamers are given the choice between taking a walk around the neighborhood or playing a game, there’d be a game of League of Legends started before the question was even finished!

To get your loved ones up and ready to explore, take a video game or pop culture-themed vacation! Travel to check out a ComiCon, or visit a video game-themed spot like the awesome Nintendo World Store in New York City! And since there probably isn’t an abundance of virtual reality RV trip simulations out there (yet), it’ll motivate your gamer to come along for a fun camping trip!

Rocky Mountain Gaming Vacation
Breckenridge, Colorado

Even though this isn’t a vacation where you can go RVing, it’s still worth your time for you and your gaming family! This all-inclusive trip for board game lovers will allow everyone to unplug a little bit! With hundreds of games to choose from, there’s no way anyone will be bored! Since you’ll be in beautiful Breckenridge, there are morning hikes that will get the family out and enjoying the fresh air and stunning views, and an organized outing or two so you can let loose! CRAFT BEER

If you love the delicious taste of craft beer, a beercation should be in the works for you and your RV! Whether you just love to taste a fresh brew or are an avid collector for your cellar, exploring a new brew city is the perfect getaway! We are wonderfully blessed here in Michigan with numerous incredible breweries, but that shouldn’t stop you from traveling to other beer cities and kicking back with a cold one.

Denver, Colorado
“Brewtown, U.S.A.”

Though there are tons of incredible beer destinations in the U.S., Denver is an exceptional one. This is home to big-name brewers like Epic Brewing Company (have a Big Bad Baptist for me if you’re a stout lover!), Renegade Brewing Company, and some charming and eclectic choices like Fiction Beer Company, which looks more like a coffee shop with tall bookcases, live music, and tasty award-winning beer! Denver even holds an annual Great American Beer Festival every October. What better way to celebrate beer?

Where To Camp
Jefferson County Fairgrounds

Set up camp at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds and you’ll have a simple, comfortable place to crash after a day at the breweries! This campground features 40 RV campsites with seasonal water and electric hookups, a dump station, restrooms with showers, and free Wi-Fi. And depending on the time of the year you visit, there may be something else fun going on at the fairgrounds for you to check out. Make a campground reservation here.

CRAFT and DIY

For those of you who love DIY projects and being crafty, you know the excitement that comes along with discovering that a good craft fair is coming up! Whether you sell or enjoy browsing and buying, there are plenty of incredible craft fairs all over the country that you won’t want to miss out on. This makes for the perfect girl’s RV trip, so get your BFFs together and hit the road to DIY heaven!

Detroit Urban Craft Fair

If you’re looking for a vast selection of handmade wares right here in Michigan, the annual Detroit Urban Craft Fair in early December is one you shouldn’t miss! With over 100 crafters with unique booths, from baby clothes to jewelry (and even delicious food), there’s a little something for everyone! If you’re looking for something a little earlier in the year, the Renegade Craft Fair heads to Detroit in September as part of its 14-show lineup, with others in Chicago, LA, San Francisco, and more.

Where To Camp
Camp Lord Willing RV Park & Campground

We don’t recommend staying in your RV right in downtown Detroit, so take a look at Camp Lord Willing RV Park! This year-round campground is the perfect relaxing campground for your crafting trip, as you’ll be surrounded by lovely trees, a beautiful pond, and will have access to coin laundry, free Wi-Fi, 20-30-50 amp service and full hookups, and more! Visit their website to find out more!
